The logo of the EAES Nice 2000 congress was "Let’s invent the future for evidence-based lap surgery". Indeed, there is a time to invent, but after innovation comes assessment, the main goal of our association to define the best procedures in minimal invasive surgery for routine practice.

Three "news" summarize the organization of the EAES NICE 2000 congress:

- new technologies, developed in all areas of the body – "from head to toe" – including allied technologies, virtual reality and robots;

- new information including transmission, either by phone or satellite, to diffuse increasing knowledge in endoscopic surgery all over the world;

- new partnership with a large technology exhibit organized as a live show where surgeons will present the latest procedures promoting on the sport exchanges between the "inventors" and the "users".

The EAES philosophy must be reminded: "hightech surgery what for? to help mankind". That means hightech surgery shoud improve the quality of life withtout inflicting harm at lowest cost, to be used not only in hightech countries but also in developing countries where their benefits should be most useful.
