FOREWORD
This Congress for Hand Surgery is of major scientific importance to the
Federation of the European Societies.
A high quality scientific program in a prestigious
setting is planned. We hope that the scientific program will be to your
satisfaction.
Our program has been prepared by the Scientific
Committee and will cover all aspects of surgery of the hand.
We took great care in selecting topics of interest. We
have received more than 600 abstracts for papers from all over the world;
an international scientific committee made an anonymous selection of the
three hundred most interesting abstracts.
The papers recorded in this volume will mark the
directions of particular interest to Hand surgeons.
This volume is intended to be used during the Congress
for Hand Surgery as well as to stand as some record of the papers. It has
a significant part to play in the Congress and its appearance before the
Congress is a tribute both to the publishers and to those participants who
have co-operated by submitting their papers in time for this production.
Intended to play a living part in the progress of these
Congress, members can read beforehand the entire papers.
Though we learn much from the precedents of previous
Congresses, every Congress must be an exercise in itself, adapting to new
conditions of time and place. This occasion has called for close teamwork
and devotion from a small number.
Finally this Hand Congress offers these Transactions as
a record of the present position in hand surgery.
