FOREWORD
The 13th International Congress of Neurological Surgery
under the auspices of the Neurosurgical Society of Morocco and the World
Federation of Neurosurgical Societies promises to be an absolutely
unique and outstanding educational event. This is the first
International Congress of Neurological Surgery ever to be held on the
continent of Africa. The Scientific Program has been arranged to offer
profound educational experiences to neurosurgeons at every level of
their respective careers. However, it is focused on the young
neurosurgeon and particularly on those neurosurgeons who work in the
developing areas of the world. The texts of the Outstanding Scientific
Publications speak for themselves in delineating the level of expertise
that prevails during this Congress, and this volume records a truly
historic event in global neurosurgery and is a tribute to those
individuals responsible for organizing the superb International Congress
in Marrakesh.
Sincerely,
Edward R. Laws, MD
President
World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies
PREFACE
The 13th World Congress of Neurological Surgery held in
Marrakech in June 19-24, 2005 has succeeded in joining together the
highest number of scientific presentations and speakers ever registered
in the previous world congresses. 2264 abstracts have been retained by
the scientific program committee presented by 1935 speakers. Although
the majority of these abstracts have been gathered in a CD ROM, we have
decided to publish the proceedings of the congress so that all young
neurosurgeons who participate in the event take advantage from it. The
Publisher Medimond in charge of this publication, contacted all the
speakers who have sent their abstracts to the Congress asking them to
send their papers. Only the papers sent before the deadline were
included in this book.
All the papers were processed according to the format and the contents
that was initially adopted by their authors when they sent the papers to
Medimond. The editors have only gathered and organized them in different
topics and chapters. Therefore, the contents of these papers is under
the sole responsibility of their authors, and cannot by any means
involve the responsibility of the Editor.
Our aim is to provide the participants in the congress a book that will
not only be a scientific reference tool for continuing medical education,
but also be a souvenir book that will remind them of the 13th World
Congress of Neurological Surgery and of the fascinating city of
Marrakech.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 13th World Congress and
myself, I would like to express my thanks to Medimond for their
collaboration, and for having printed the book on time to be available
during the congress.
Abdeslam El Khamlichi, M.D.
President of the 13th World Congress
