PREFACE
This volume contains truncated versions of the papers and
posters which were presented at the twelfth biennial meeting of the
International Society of Craniofacial Surgery, and organizations which
was founded in 1983, and has as its Honorary President for the first two
meetings, Dr. Paul Tessier of Paris, whose innovative contributions
resulted in the formation of this distinct subspecialty of Plastic and
Reconstructive Surgery.
I would like to dedicate this book to Dr. Tessier, who,
at age 90, is still helping us all with his continuing thinking about
Craniofacial Surgery.
I would also like to dedicate the book to my friend of
more than 25 years, Dr. Cassio Raposo do Amoral, of Campinas, Brazil.
Cassio had been elected President of ISCFS at the eleventh biennial
meeting in Australia, and chose Bahia as the place to have the meeting.
After his unexpected and untimely death, I moved into the Presidency,
and was glad to maintain the meeting in Bahia. I would have been unable
to do so without the continuing on-site help from Cassio’s widow, Dra.
Vera Raposo do Amoral.
The quality of the papers presented, as will be
immediately evident on perusal of this volume, made this a very
successful meeting, and speaks well for the future of Craniofacial
Surgery. Ours is a small specialty, but one which has made a huge
difference in the lives of so many of our patients. Thank you, Dr.
Tessier, for being the father of all craniofacial surgeons.
S. Anthony Wolfe, M.D.
